Regmi announces Rs 35,000 each to flood displaced families
DARCHULA, JUN 20 - Chairman of Interim Election Government Khil Raj Regmi has announced an assistance of Rs 35,000 each to the families rendered homeless or displaced by the floods. He made the announcement during his visit to flood-ravaged Darchula district where at least 12 houses were swept by flooding in the Mahakali River.
Speaking at a press meet after inspecting the situation of the district following recent floods, Regmi said the government will provide the amount as an immediate relief package.
He also announced that the government will allocate Rs 500 million for the district in the upcoming budget. He added the government will prioritise the ongoing supply of food stuff, resumption of roads and construction of embankment in the district.
He informed that all the concerned ministries have been directed to ensure immediate supply of medicine and drinking water.
Saying that the floods have caused a huge damage to lives and properties, Regmi said the government is serious about it. He said the government offices swept by the floods will provide their services through coordination with the ministries.
Regmi, who arrived here in Darchula district via helicopter at 11:30 this morning, took stock of the situation in places including Khalanga Ghat Bazaar and Birendra Ban of Galfai Region. As many as 109 houses were swept away and 350 families were displaced due to the floods triggered by incessant rainfall on June 16.
During his visit, Chairman Regmi was accompanied by Minister for Home and Foreign Affairs Madhav Prasad Ghimire, Minister for Physical Planning and Infrastructure, and Co-operative Chabilal Panta, Minister of Energy, Science, Technology and Irrigation Umakant Jha, Chief Secretary, Home Secretary and Energy Secretary.
