Parsa cops arrest five for carrying 85kg hashish

Police on Wednesday made public five persons, including an Indian national, who were arrested along with 85kg of hashish from different parts in Parsa district on Tuesday.
Indian national Mukesh Srivastav was arrested with five kg of the contraband drug from Birgunj-19. Police, acting on a tip off, confiscated 80kg of hashish from the same area and arrested the four other persons.
While recording his statement before police Srivastav said that Prabhu Sah Sonar of Birgunj-19 and Santosh Patel of Birgunj-3 directed him to take the drug to Raxaul, a bordering Indian city.
Likewise, police nabbed Suraj Lama and Som Bahadur Tamang from Bipas during a security check, while Dinesh Gurung and Ram Karki were arrested from Birgunj-17. The four arrestees are permanent residents of Chitwan.
According to police, the Birgunj border has become a transit point for drug smuggling.
Drugs produced in hilly districts are being smuggled to India through a route inside the Parsa Wildlife Reserve,
said police. Innocent people are reportedly paid Rs 200 per kg of drugs and employed as porters to carry drugs to India.
Parsa DSP Basudev Khatiwada said a special police team has been mobilised on the Birgunj border to curb drug smuggling.
