Prisoner serving for polygamy commits suicide

SIRAHA, JUN 20 - A prisoner serving a sentence for polygamy committed suicide at Siraha prison on Thursday.
According to jailor Babita Mahato, Ram Jiwan Yadav, 40, hanged himself with a shawl from a rod in the toilet today morning. District Court Siraha had ordered him to be remanded into custody on May 14.

Yadav’s wife Selo Devi had filed a case of polygamy against him as he was preparing to get married with Sagiya Devi Sah. Jailor Mahato said that Sagiya Devi is also in custody at Siraha prison and the two could meet on Sundays and Wednesdays.

Mahato further informed that the two had been quarreling much lately and Sagiya Devi was usually tense when they met. It was said that she had asked for money with Yadav and had quarreled about the same on Wednesday.

Yadav has a son and two daughters from his wife Selo Devi.
