Baidya flays Indo-Nepal 28-pt pact

Baidhya
The CPN-Maoist has expressed serious concern over the 28-point agreement signed with India during the home secretary-level talks held earlier this month in Kathmandu.

In a press statement signed by CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya, the party has voiced strong objections to two points of the agreement, which it believes are ‘very sensitive and objectionable’. The statement said the 20th point of the deal allows India to construct and operate a modern police academy at Paunati. The 21st point stresses handing over the Department of Immigration for modernisation, it said.

“The meeting has agreed to give continuity to the implementation of old decisions. Such decision are fatal for the country’s sovereignty,” read the statement released on Sunday. The Baidya party has strongly urged stakeholders to immediately scrap and not to implement any decisions related to a sensitive issue like national security. The statement told the government to construct, upgrade, modernise and operate any bodies related to national security considering its sensitiveness.
