EC allots electoral symbols for 59 parties

KATHMANDU, JUL 25 - As a part of the preparations for upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) election s the Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday allotted election symbols to 59 political parties. EC officials say the electoral symbols of the remaining parties would be distributed once the verification of application filed for the party registration comes to an end.

Of late, 139 political parties have applied for contesting the election s while 33 poll-opposing parties are yet to apply for the election s. “EC provided the election symbols for those parties representing the disbanded CA and fulfilling EC set criteria for the party registration ,” said EC Spokesperson Bir Bahadur Rai adding the remaining parties would get electoral symbols shortly.  The verification over the applications of remaining parties is underway at the EC.

While the older parties were given their usual electoral symbols the newly registered parties have got new electoral symbols. The CPN-UML was given their usual electoral symbols “sun”, Nepali Congress given “tree” UCPN (Maoist) “hammer and sickle inside the circle”, Rastriya Prajatantra Party “plough”, Nepal Majdoor Kisan Party “madal”, Samajbadi Janatabadi “moon”, Janamukti Party “house” and Rastriya Janamukti Party “glass”.

Kamal Thapa-led Rastriya Prajatantra party was given previous electoral symbol “cow”, CPN (Marxist-Leninist) was given “sickle and star”, CPN (unified) “sickle”, Nepali Janata Dal “wheel” Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Nepal “torch in hand”, Sadbhawana Party “arrow”.

 Similarly, Mahantha Thakur-led Tarai Madhes Loktanrik Party was given “a pair of ox”, Nepal Pariwar Dal “key”, Nepa Party “khadga”, Nepal Loktantrik Samajbadi Party “pen”, Chure Bhabar Ekta Samaj “sudarshan charka”, MJF-Nepal (Loktantrik) “folding hands”, TMLP Nepal “man with stick”, MJF-Ganatantrik “train”, Sanghiya Sadbhawana Party “swan”, Sanghiya Loktantrik Rastriya Manhca (Tharuhat) “pot”, Janata Dal United “sankha”, Rastriya Sadbhawana “garland”, Nawa Nepal Nirman Party “rabbit”, Nepal Nagarik Party “mobile”

Sarat Singh Bhandari-led Rastriya Madhes Samajbadi Party was given “cycle”, Sambhuwan Rastriya Morcha, Nepal was given “hammer”, Jana-unity Cooperative Party Nepal “copy and pen”, Nepal Rastriya Bikas Party “radio”. Nepal Nyaik Dal “lighting candle”, Samyukta Rastrabadi Morcha Nepal “kalash” and Mangol National Organization “hen”.
