Govt announces relief packages for flood victims

KATHMANDU, JUN 19 - The government has decided to provide Rs 40,000 as relief package to each of the families of those who lost their lives in the flood s and landslides in Far West and Western Regions of the country.

An emergency meeting chaired by Chairman of Interim Election Government Khil Raj Regmi made such decision on Wednesday morning.

The meeting convened at Regmi's official residence in Baluwatar concluded that the government will leave no stone unturned to carry out the rescue operation and distribute relief packages for the victims of flood s and landslides.

The meeting also sanctioned a fund of Rs 400 million to the Prime Minister’s Relief Trust and Rs 10 million to the Central Natural Disaster Rescue Fund.

The government will also send relief packages including basic needs including medicines, foods and clothes, among other things, in the flood and landslide-affected areas, Regmi's Press Advisor Bimal Gautam informed.

The meeting has also directed to speed up the arrangements for helicopters and extra support from all security bodies in those districts which have demand for additional support.

Likewise, the government has also decided to rehabilitate those displaced by the flood s in Mahakali River and to keep an eye on their health.

Only yesterday, a meeting of Central Natural Disaster Rescue Committee had decided to allocate Rs 50 lakh each for rescue operation in Darchula and Kanchapur districts that have been affected by massive flood s in the Mahakali River.

Home Minister Madhav Prasad Ghimire, Minister for Physical Planning and Infrastructure Chabilal Pant, Local Development Minister Vidhyadhar Mallik, Energy Minister Umakant Jha, secretaries of ministries and chiefs of all security bodies were present in the meeting.
