VP for constitution with consensus of all
KATHMANDU, DEC 09 - Vice President Parmanand Jha has said that a new constitution should be promulgated by bringing all in the mainstream of the constitution writing by forging consensus as constitution was the first priority of the country and people.
Jha expressed the view that it was an urgent necessity to bring the UCPN (Maoist) , which was dissatisfied from the results of the Constituent Assembly (CA) election, and the CPN-Maoist, which had not participated in the election, in the constitution writing process by giving first priority to the constitution writing by the political parties that have received people's fresh mandate in the election.
At a programme organised by the Reporters' Club Nepal at the residence of Vice-President Jha this morning, he said that constitution writing was the main responsibility rather than fear of extension of office term of the President and Vice-President.
VP Jha said 'We have no desire to stay any longer in the post.'
The Vice-President further said that the political parties should consider that the office term of the first president would be meaningful only if the country gets new constitution during his term of office as he is the first president in the country.
Jha said that changing the president at this hour means sending him out with dishonor and added that everyone wants to leave honorably from the post.
The term of the president is written in the constitution as 'until a constitution is made', he said and asked how can the parties move forward without making clear provision by amending the constitution that there will be election from the second CA.
He said that it depends on the parties whether or not to continue with them or to amend the constitution. RSS
