NT launches mobile phone service in remote Gorkha VDC

The district branch of Nepal Telecom here has recently launched mobile phone service in a remote Samagaun located some 93 km north of the district headquarters.
Chief at the District Telecom Office, Chandra Bahadur Shrestha, said the mobile service was begun through satellite link since December 5.
A mini micro BTS tower was set up for the operation of this service. Through the tower, as many as 500 persons can operate CDMA mobile simultaneously. The District Office has planned to expand the service to the neighbouring Chhekampar VDC next month. Other five VDCs in the district are also likely to get the service within this year, Shrestha said.
A feasibility study was conducted in seven VDCs to expand the mobile service last year.
With the launch of mobile service, the people from Samagaun can operate internet based on IP CDMA technology.
