UML leader also in favour of probe commissiom
KATHMANDU, DEC 13 - CPN-UML leader Raghubir Mahaseth has claimed that the recent Constituent Assembly (CA) elections were full of rigging and demanded the formation of a high-level independent commission for investigation into the same.
Mahaseth's comment comes at a time when his party seems to be against the idea of formation of a probe commission to look into the matter of alleged electoral fraud. Mahaseth was speaking at an interaction programme organised at the Reporters’ Club in the Capital on Friday.
Alleging that President Ram Baran Yadav and the security agencies were involved in the electoral fraud at Dhanusa-5, the constituency from which Mahaseth lost to a Nepali Congress candidaye, the UML leader expressed doubt that electoral irregularities might have occurred in other constituencies too.
Mahaseth had lost to NC candidate Chandra Mohan Yadav, son of President Ram Baran Yadav, from Dhanusa constituency- 5.
“President Yadav himself was involved in the electoral irregularities . It will be clear if his call details are checked. Journalists, human rights officials and election observers too have felt that,” the UML leader said.
Also speaking at the progranmme, NC leader Narayan Khadka clarified that the NC President should get the first chance to lead the government as NC became the largest party in the CA elections under his leadership. "If the party had lost, he would have resigned on the grounds of morality. Our party won, so he should be the first choice to lead the government," he added.
Likewise, UCPN (Maoist) leader Devendra Paudel warned his party would not take part in the CA and to secure their rights they would go to the public, unless a high-level independent probe commission was formed to investigate into poll rigging.
