Foreign intervention, claim 33 parties
KATHMANDU, JUL 21 -
An alliance of 33 dissident parties led by the CPN-Maoist has urged diplomatic missions in Nepal not to support the Constituent Assembly election scheduled for November 19.
Issuing a joint statement on Saturday, the Mohan Baidya-led dissident parties protesting against the CA polls have said some foreign missions have saddened the Nepali community by supporting the ‘four-party political syndicate’ and election announced by the ‘unconstitutional’ government.
The strongly-worded statement has criticised the ‘increasing foreign intervention ’ in country’s internal affairs including constitution writing process, the CA and election. The statement signed by CPN-M Secretary Dev Gurung on the behalf of the alliance has suggested the diplomatic missions respect international ethics enshrined in the United Nations Charter, the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence.
The statement reads that some diplomatic missions have violated the international diplomatic code of conduct by supporting the non-partisan government formed on the basis of 11-point and 25-point agreements. It accused the foreign missions of supporting the ‘illegitimate’ move taken by the four parties that made several clauses of Interim Constitution defunct.
“Nepali citizens are frustrated at the rising foreign intervention . This is an attempt to aware the foreign missions not to interfere in the internal affairs of a sovereign nation,” Gurung told the Post. Gurung said the alliance will aware them in person if such acts of intervention do not change.
The dissident parties have said that foreign missions have created divisions in the Nepali society through their influence in socio-political lives.
“Such intervention should be immediately stopped as it’s neither in their benefit nor ours. Nepali people should have the first and last authority on issues of national importance, including the election and constitution,” said Pasang Sherpa, vice-chairman the Social Democratic Party Nepal, an ally.
