UCPN (M), allies to shun CA until formation of probe commission
KATHMANDU, DEC 09 - An alliance of 18 parties including UCPN (Maoist) has decided to stay out of the Constituent Assembly unless a high-level probe commission is formed to look after alleged electoral fraud .
A meeting of the alliance that convened at UCPN (M) headquarters in the Capital today opined that the interim constitution should not be amended through ordinance when there is a fresh public mandate garnered through the CA poll.
"We have decided to write the new constitution based on consensus and also to stay out of the CA unless a high-level probe commission is constituted to look after the massive vote rigging that occurred during the polls," said Rajendra Shrestha, General Secretary of Federal Socialist Party Nepal emerging from the meeting.
Shrestha warned that the consequences will be dire if there is an attempt to amend the interim constitution through ordinance.
Interim Constitution 2063 bars the amendment of constitution through ordinance once the election results are made public.
The alliance includes FSPN, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Nepal, Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party, Sadhbhawana Party, Tarai Madhes Sadhbhawana Party, among others.
