Koirala confident on timely polls
KATHMANDU, JUL 01 -
Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala has said that there was no any doubt on the election to the Constituent Assembly (CA) as election was the only outlet to the political crisis of the country and Nepali people were in favour of it.
Koirala, who is in the United States of America for medial treatment, expressed his belief that the dissenting parties would finally participate in the election as there was no alternative to the election .
Koirala said so at a programme organised by the Nepal -America Liaison Committee, associated with NC, at Jackson Height in New York today.
Stating that talks are underway with the leaders of the dissenting parties including the CPN-Maoist and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Nepal for their participation in the election , he clarified that his party is not against the idea of federalism. He, however, said that his party would not favour ethnicity-based federalism.
On a different note, Koirala said that the party would give election ticket to those candidates who are recommended by the constituency.
It has been learnt that the NC President, who has been suffering from tongue cancer for the past few years, would undergo his regular medical check-up at the Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in New York. RSS
