Either forge consensus, or give us the onus: Govt
The government on Saturday floated a proposal on behalf of the major parties to either forge consensus on the electoral ordinance or give the responsibility to the government on the same.
Ministers trio Madhav Paudel, Madav Ghimire and Biddhyadhar Mallik floated such proposal at the High Level Special Committee ( HLPC ) meeting in Kathmandu today. All the three ministers are part of the government talks team.
Discord among the parties regarding the provisions of the electoral ordinance has delayed the announcement of the date of the Constituent Assembly (CA) election.
"The government was formed to hold elections as per your understanding," said the government talks team during their meeting with the senior leaders today," If possible, forge consensus within next few days, if not, give us the responsibility."
The government talks team proposed that the responsibility be given to the government as the disputed issues did not figure at the 11 and 15-point agreement reached among the parties earlier.
Sources claimed that the four major parties have reportedly reached an understanding to hand over the responsibility of forging consensus on the disputed issues to the government if the parties fail in doing so within a few days.
And the sources also claimed that the possibility of entrusting the government to solve the disputed issues were high as whatever decision the government would take would be 'face-saving' to all.
The parties are at loggerheads over the provisions of threshold, the eligibility of the leaders while contesting the CA polls and the size of the CA.
