3 jailed in Kenya return home
NEW DELHI, AUG 26 -
Three Nepali nationals, who were jailed in Kenya’s capital city of Nairobi for entering the country with fake documents, were released after they paid the fine ordered by a court there.
The trio—Subash Gurung, Umananda Giri and Purna Tulachan—from Pokhara returned Nepal on Saturday, said Ramchandra Basyal of the Kenaya-based Non-Resident Nepalese Association (NRNA).
The three men were fleeced out of Rs 1 million each by a man identified as Krishna Gurung, who had promised to take them to the UK. They had landed in Kenya with the impression that the country was one of the many transits before they enter the UK.
On July 14, the Kenayan authorities had arrested the three men with fake visas and work permits.
According to Basyal of the NRNA, Krishna Gurung is one of the many agents involved in trafficking Nepali and Indian citizens to African nations like Kenya and Tanzania on the pretext of taking them to European countries.
The NRNA has drawn the attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department of Immigration and chief secretaries of the concerned ministries about the situation and requested them to take a firm action to stop trafficking of Nepali citizens to Africa.
