Poll alliance need of the hour: Madhesi leaders
Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party (TMLP) Chairman Mahanta Thakur said that the Madhes-based parties will come together in future.
Thakur said that the parties, despite having similar ideology and issues, have remained separate for a long period of time and that they will come together in the coming days.
“Now we are separate and hence the ruling class has cheated us repeatedly by taking advantage of our discreteness,” said Thakur speaking at a programme in Kathmandu on Saturday," If we come together, our bargaining power will increase and we won't be cheated."
He said that his call for unification or forming an alliance among the Madhes-based parties was not intended to antagonize anybody. It is rather the need of the hour, he added.
Also in the programme, Sadhbhawana Party Chairman Rajendra Mahato clarified that he was not against the coming together of Madhes-based parties. He, however, said that the vision behind forming an alliance among the parties should be clear.
"Polarization among the parties to fulfil somebody's vested interest should not happen," said the former Minister," Our party is ready if the basis of forging an alliance is party's ideology."
"If we had all alliance in the earlier Constituent Assembly (CA) election, we could have garnered 200 seats and not just 83," said Mahato.
The Madhes-based parties have been mulling about forming an alliance keeping in view with the upcoming CA election.
