Nepal thrash Singapore by 227 runs, qualify for final
KATHMANDU, DEC 06 - Nepal has entered into the finals of Sagarmatha Cement Journey to the World Cup cricket tournament defeating Singapore by huge margin of 227 runs in the match held at the Tribhuvan University cricket ground in Kirtipur on Friday.
The win for the Nepal i national cricket team came through the wonderful batting effort of Sharad Veswakar and Subash Khakurel along side a brilliant bowling display by Jitendra Mukhiya.
Singapore was all out for 86 runs in 17.1 overs, chasing a huge target of 313 runs posted by Nepal . Sompal Kami and Rajkumar Pradhan took three wickets each while Basanta Regmi and Jitendra Mukhiya took two wickets each to sum up the Singaporean innings.
Earlier, Nepal had put up a massive score of 313 runs after winning the toss. Sharad Vesawkar blasted 91 runs while Subhas Khakurel made 75 runs. Likewise, Anil Mandal contributed 56 runs while Gyanendra Malla put up a score of 48 and Prithvi Baskota added 19 runs for the Nepal i innings.
Zohara International Pvt Ltd, an event management company, in coordination with Cricket Association of Nepal organised the tournament in a bid to provide the Nepal i team a much-needed exposure ahead of the ICC World Cup Qualifier scheduled for January 13-February 1 next year in New Zealand.
The tournament, which runs until December 7, features Air India, Delhi Wanderers and Singapore national team. Top two teams will play for the title.
