Nepal crashes out after heavy Pakistan defeat
KATHMANDU, AUG 21 -
Nepal crashed out in the group stage of the ACC Emerging Teams Cup after suffering an embarrassing nine wicket defeat from the hands of Pakistan U-23 side on Wednesday.
Chasing the target of 157 runs for victory, Pakistan raced towards the total in 34th over with Babar Azam scoring a century for the Pakistani side. Azam's 100 came from 118 balls with 11 boundaries. Hammad Azam was not out on 41 runs in an easy victory for the Pakistan U23s.
Earlier, losing the toss Nepal had another disappointing performance with the bat after being all out for 156 runs.
It was opener Subash Khakurel's 78 off 127 balls that became the only highlight of Nepal i batting. Binod Bhandari, Basanta Regmi, both with 16 runs each, and Gyanendra Malla on 10 were the only batsmen to reach the double digit score against a disciplined Pakistani bowling.
Raza Hasan took three wickets while Usman Qadir registered two in his name.
Nepal had already lost against Afghanistan and India in their previous matches in the tournament.
Pakistan has confirmed their berth in the knock-out stage with the win.
