Can't accept Regmi-led govt: Baidya
KATHMANDU, AUG 23 - CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya has made it clear that his party will not accept the interim election government led by Khil Raj Regmi and the date slated for Constituent Assembly elections.
"We won't compromise under the status quo and can't accept the current government and election date of November 19," said Baidya while receiving a memorandum submitted by Reporters Club in the Capital on Friday.
Baidya made such remark a day after the High Level Political Committee reached an agreement in principle with the 33-party alliance to sit for an all-party conference.
He said that his party is firm on its stand on the formation of a partisan government through the proposed roundtable conference to ensure the elections.
Baidya said that he has made it clear during the meeting with HLPC that the alliance of 33-political parties led by his party, CPN-Maoist, would not accept the current government and election date of November 19 and the nation will enter into a new process. He claimed the old chapter has come to an end.
Saying that the roundtable talks will be based on the 18-point charter of demands put forth by his party, Baidya said no one can runaway from the conference.
"Now, the agreement should be forged in real. The roundtable is meant for a national consensus. The understanding reached between the political parties so far is positive. We will try to move the talks in positive direction," said Baidya.
