Dahal laments lack of clear majority in last CA polls
KAVRE, AUG 22 - UCPN (Maoist) leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal has expressed his sadness for his failure to become the first prime minister of republic Nepal with the sole strength of his party. He added that he had to rely on the support of CPN-UML and Madhes-based parties to become the prime minister though his party emerged as the single largest party in the first Constituent Assembly (CA) elections.
Addressing the first Tamsaling state conference of UCPN (Maoist) aligned youth front Young Communist League (YCL) on Thursday, Dahal appealed to the general public to give a clear mandate to the party in the upcoming CA polls so that they won't have to rely on the crutch of other parties.
"Though the people elected the party [ UCPN (Maoist) ] as the single largest party, I could not become the prime minister with the sole strength of my party, which is why I had to take the support of CPN-UML and Madhesi parties" said Dahal.
Dubbing the CPN-UML as a betrayer, the Maoist chairman blamed the UML for his failure to do make remarkable difference during his tenure as the prime minister.
"An army chief dared to challenge the government decision, which was not tolerable for us," said Dahal. "We had initiated the procedure to take action against the army chief after taking the consent of UML Chairman Jhala Natha Khanal, Vice Chairman Bam Dev Gautam and General Secretary Ishwor Pokharel."
Dahal lamented that the UML's betrayal led to a situation in which his party was faced with a dilemma whether to bow down before the army chief or fight.
Saying that the UCPN (Maoist) has regarded the Nepali people as the only judge, Dahal claimed that his party will prepare the draft of the new constitution within six months and promulgate the new constitution within a year if they receive a majority in the elections.
Dahal informed the YCL cadres about the past weaknesses of the party and expressed his commitment to not repeat them in the future.
