Jhapa has good stock of antivenom
DAMAK, AUG 23 -
Even as many districts across the country have been reeling under the shortage of the snake antivenom, Jhapa has managed to provide services to snakebite victims.
The antivenom is available and in plenty at the Red Cross Society in Damak. “In additional to quantity of the antivenom that we need in the district for a year, we have 400 vials that we can provide to other hospitals in need,” said Prakash Budhathoki, chairperson of the Damak chapter of the Red Cross Society.
Out of the 400 vials, 150 have already been provided to hospitals in Nawalparasi and Chitwan districts.
According to Devi Bhandari, incharge of the Damak-based Snakebite Treatment Centre, though they had almost the same amount of the antivenom, they did not face the shortage due to the technical know-how on using it efficiently.
The staffers at the treatment centre had learned the skill after working with doctors from Geneva University for a period of 18 months. The university also provided them with the antivenom. Likewise, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugee, a couple of months ago, had provided them with a mobile ventilator which also added to the reliability of their services.
