‘UML with voters’ to be re-launched

KATHMANDU, AUG 22 -
With the November Constituent Assembly election almost at hand, the CPN- UML has decided to re-launch its nationwide campaign, ‘ UML with Voters’, and a separate Madhes-centric special election drive.

Both the campaigns will begin in a week and end by the third week of September, leaders said after the party’s Standing Committee meeting here on Wednesday.

“The campaigns that will continue until the filing of the candidacy will make the candidates familiar with the voters, while we will analyse the actual party strength,” party Secretary Shankar Pokharel said. The UML district committees will mobilise their leaders in their respective constituencies, leaders said.

In Wednesday’s meeting, leaders stressed on the need to make the polls a success by bringing all poll-opposing forces on board. “We have no time to lose. Poll-opposing parties, including Baidyaji (Mohan Baidya-led

CPN-Maoist) should be brought into the process by addressing their

political concerns,” said party General Secretary Ishwor Pokharel.

The SC meeting is scheduled to discuss election preparations and form an ‘election mobilising committee,’ a

manifesto drafting committee and an election expenditure collection committee. It is also scheduled to come up with the party’s election publicity campaign.

The party’s secretariat has proposed the SC resolve the dispute over the youth wing, Youth Association Nepal (YAN) after its chief, Mahesh Basnet, organised a separate meeting by ignoring instructions from the party Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal. Khanal had instructed Basnet and another group led by YAN Vice-chairperson Jhapat Rawal to resolve a dispute among them.
