Poultry entrepreneurs, police clash in Bhaktapur
BHAKTAPUR, AUG 23 - Agitating poultry entrepreneurs and security personnel clash ed in Bhaktapur on Friday after police interfered in the agitation launched by the former demanding rightful compensation of the culled chickens .
Tension rose at Dudhpati in Bhaktapur till 12:30 PM after clash es took place for around half an hour between police and poultry entrepreneurs when they picketed the District Livestock Office from 9:00 AM this morning as per the programme declared three days ago by the Poultry Entrepreneurs' Association.
The clash es took place between the two sides after police interfered while the entrepreneurs had tried to padlock the Livestock Office. Transport services from Dudhpati to Kathmandu resumed only after 12:30 PM.
The poultry entrepreneurs staged sit-in at the District Administration Office from 1:00 PM chanting slogans against the government after talks held between entrepreneurs and the Livestock Office ended inconclusively.
Seven entrepreneurs including Jagat Laxmi Suwal of Bhaktapur Municipality were injured in the clash , said Chairman of the association, Tulsiram Dhukhwa.
Similarly, entrepreneurs Badri Poudel and Birendra Tamang and police Shankar Raj Giri have been injured in the incident.
Chairman Dhukhwa demanded that the interest of loans taken by entrepreneurs from Banks should be waived and loan should be provided to entrepreneurs at one percent interest rate.
He called for immediate compensation of the killed chickens and eggs, saying that the government had culled the chickens forcibly.
Central member of the association, Laxman Gwachha warned of bringing the country to total halt if the government suppressed the poultry entrepreneurs ' demands.
He said entrepreneurs are not able to pay interests as the government did not provide compensation to them despite assurances to provide compensation soon after culling chickens.
