‘Schools show fake student data’
GULMI, AUG 25 -
A large number of public schools in the district are found to have received budget for various purposes by showing fake list of students to concerned authorities, the District Education Office (DEO) said.
According to Harilal Aryal, section officer at the DEO, over 9000 students are found to have been fake this year. “We monitored the schools’ activities after transferring concerned resource persons and school inspectors and found the irregularity,” he said.
Government schools receive budget under the Per Child Fund policy, for scholarships for Dalit, impoverished and disabled students as well as for purchasing textbooks based on the number of students.
In 2068 BS too, over 27,000 students were found to have gone missing during surprise monitoring. Consequently, Rs 6.2 million allocated for purchasing textbooks had remained unused that year. Based on the finding, the Department of Education had reduced the same amount of budget for purchasing books in the district.
District Education Officer Gobinda Aryal said they will continue the
monitoring strictly as a large number of fake students are found to be fake every year.
He said that in the first phase, they will seek clarification from headmasters of the schools which are found to have been involved in misusing budget by showing fake students. “In the second phase, we will initiate legal action against the guilty,” he said. There are 847 public schools in the district.
