Most wanted Banke man held

NEPALGUNJ, AUG 23 -
A wanted felon had been concealing his identity and passing as a petty drug peddler before the eyes of the Banke police until recently. Jiah Ul Maniyar, wanted by the police for abduction and murder of four persons in the district, was arrested on July 1 in possession of heroin. He had identified himself as Wakil Darji from Rupadeya, an Indian border town off Nepalgunj. After more than one month in police custody, Maniyar’s cover was blown during interrogation.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhupal Kumar Bhandari said Maniyar is accused of kidnapping and murdering Gangaram Pasi, Munna Yadav, Kapil Dwibedi and Liladhar Bhatta.

“He is the person who perpetrated all the murders for his group. We were after him for years. The way he came out after pretending to be someone else for nearly two months was quite a revelation,” SP Bhandari said.

After Banke police put him up on the most-wanted list, Maniyar had changed his name, address and appearance to avoid being identified.

A police source said Maniyar had been running a criminal racket with Rijman Sai and Meraj Ahmad Sai. While Rijman is still wanted by the police in the Dwibedi-Bhatta murder case, Meraj Ahmad is doing time in the Palpa district prison.
