Polls in November at any cost, says Koirala

CHITWAN, AUG 25 -
Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala has said that the Constituent Assembly (CA) election will be held on the stipulated date at any cost.

Speaking at a press meet organised at the Bharatpur Airport in Chitwan on Saturday, NC President Koirala warned that the country would face great crisis if the slated polls were deferred.

“The polls will take place at any cost,” said Koirala, “Postponing the CA election will be no less than inviting crisis.”

Koirala said the agitating CPN-Maoist led by Mohan Baidya has no option other than joining the November polls. Stating that the Baidya party is against the November election, he said they are hell-bent in postponing the polls on various pretexts. He said the round-table conference as demanded by the agitating 33-party alliance would not ensure the polls.

“We have asked the poll-opposing parties to do homework for the next 2-4 days and sit for the talks,” said Koirala, adding that Baidya’s stance to resolve the intricacies of the constitution immediately is meaningless.

The NC chief went on to claim that preliminary draft of the constitution would be ready after six months of the polls and would be promulgated within a year.

Koirala arrived in the district along with other NC leaders to inaugurate the fifth national convention of Nepal Trade Union Congress scheduled to begin from Sunday.
