Poultry farmers would be compensated: govt official
KATHMANDU, AUG 25 - The Department of Livestock Services (DoLS) has said that the farmers would get compensation of the culled chickens as per the market price.
Speaking at an interaction held in the Capital today, Director General of the Department, Dr. Nar Bahadur Rajawar, said that the Department has sent suggestions to the Ministry of Agriculture to prepare an action plan for the rehabilitation of farmers, to provide compensation of the slaughtered chickens as per the market price and to waive loans taken from banks by farmers, among others.
Chairman of the Bird Flu Victim Farmers ' Struggle Committee, Krishna Ram Magarati, Vice-Chairman of the Nepal Poultry Farmers Federation, Rajan Hari Khatri, Chairman of the Hatchery Entrepreneurs' Association, Shiva Prasad Sharma, farmer Ganesh Kunwar, among others, attended the interaction programme today.
The farmers affected from the recent outbreak of bird flu virus in the Capital have been asking the government to provide rightful compensation of the culled fowls.
Hundreds of thousands of bird flu -infected fowls have been culled over the period of a month in all the three districts in the Valley with Bhaktapur being the most affected one. RSS
