PMO secy orders fast road work
KATHMANDU, DEC 08 - The government on Saturday directed authorities concerned to expedite work on the expanded roads in Kathmandu Valley on a war footing.
Secretary at Prime Minister’s Office Krishna Hari Baskota directed the officials and technicians involved in the job to speed up work to relive people soon of dust, manholes and traffic jams caused by the ongoing construction.
Baskota warned of action against officials delaying the vital work. He instructed engineers not to hesitate to scrap contracts awarded to construction companies that flout orders, and blacklist them.
The Kathmandu Valley Road Expansion Project is overseeing construction work on 32 km road in 16 sections. So far only 9 km has been blacktopped while tarring of the Maitighar-Tinkune (1.8km) section and the Gaushala-Shankhamul (1.7km) section will be over soon.
In Lalitpur, the Division Road Office has blacktopped 7.6km of the assigned 29.9km road while the Division Road Office Bhaktapur completed blacktopping on 1.09km out of the assigned 8.29 km.
Baskota lauded the cooperation from Nepal Electricity Authority, Nepal Telecom, and Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited during the expansion project.
