UCPN (M) enters single leadership system as Dahal's proposal gets endorsed
KATHMANDU, JUL 21 - The extended meeting of the UCPN (Maoist) on Sunday endorsed Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ’s proposal , adopting single leadership system thereby further empowering Dahal's position in the party.
Earlier, Dahal had floated a proposal at the ongoing extended plenum to dissolve the four office bearers' positions with just the position of a Chairman and the rest of the others as Central Committee members.
With the endorsement of Dahal's proposal , the party has now entered into a single leadership system until a national convention slated to be held after the Constituent Assembly (CA) election.
Speaking at the closed session of the plenum on Saturday, a majority of the plenum representatives supported Dahal’s proposal , with ‘marginal voices against it.’
The UCPN (Maoist) had called for an extended plenum to solve the intra-party rift that had surfaced after controversies over organisational appointments. The intra-party feud only got worse when Vice Chairman Baburam Bhattarai resigned from the party post on June 30 claiming to initiate a culture of 'sacrifice' within the party.
Vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha and General Secretary Post Bahadur Bogati on Saturday had resigned from their respective positions in line with Dahal's proposal .
While acknowledging that he was now the only office bearer of the party, Chairman Dahal said that he would constitute a party Secretariat including former office bearers.
