Thapa hints at royalist-Baidya party alliance for ‘nationalism’
KATHMANDU, JUL 25 -
Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal Kamal Thapa has said an alliance with royalists and the CPN-Maoist is likely if the upcoming CA elections were postponed.
Such a statement from the party chief campaigning for the revival of monarchy comes a day after CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya said that his party could work together with the former king to “safeguard nationalism”.
Thapa claimed if the CA polls scheduled for November 19 get disrupted, it would be because of the four major parties, not due to the Baidya-led party. “In such a situation, the king (former king), Maoists and all nationalist forces will take to streets together to safeguard nationalism. Nobody can stop that,” said Thapa at an interaction at Reporter’s Club in Kathmandu.
On Tuesday, in a strong message to deposed king Gynendra Shah, former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai had warned that Shah’s visit to different parts of the country is aimed at thwarting the elections.
He had accused that some ‘revolutionary forces’ are rallying around Gyanendra in the name of forging an alliance with ‘nationalist forces’. Thapa also revealed that he held frequent talks with Baidya, his deputies Netra Bikram Chand and Dev Gurung and they were in a regular touch even today.
Hailing the statement of CPN-Maoist leaders that collaboration with nationalist forces was a must when nationality is at risk, he hinted at talks between the former king and CPN-M leaders to that effect.
In another context, Thapa claimed that former Prime Minister Bhattarai was the first person to propose an alliance between the Maoists and monarchy.
