US envoy encourages poll participation
KATHMANDU, JUL 26 - US Ambassador to Nepal Peter W Bodde visited local government officials, business leaders and NGOs and met with Carter Center observers in Kailali and Kanchanpur on Tuesday and Wednesday to learn about the region's preparations for the November election s.
Ambassador Bodde also received a briefing on anti-trafficking efforts in the region from the Safe Migration Network, said a statement issued by the US Embassy in Kathmandu. He visited the Nepal National Social Welfare Association, which assists conflict victims. In Kailali, Ambassador Bodde met with members of the Kailali Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and visited the American Corner Dhangadhi, a US funded library housed in the building.
In Kanchanpur, Ambassador Bodde visited the new Nepal English Language Teachers' Association office and planted a tree with students of the US-sponsored English Access Micro-scholarship Program. He also met with Dr Jai Raj Awasthi, vice-chancellor of the Far Western University, and learned about plans for the university's development. In a speech to the university students, Ambassador Bodde encouraged their participation in the November election s. “Your voices should be heard in this election . Exercising your right to vote and allowing others to do the same will build a better Nepal,” he said.
