Don't reinstate Sthapit, SC tells gov
The Supreme Court on Sunday ordered the government not to reinstate Keshav Sthapit as the commissioner of the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority (KDVA) citing his incompetence.
A division bench of justices Prakash Osti and Tarkraj Bhatta revoked the court's earlier decision, giving Sthapit the boot from the position.
Sthapit, who was sacked in January following a Cabinet's decision, had challenged the decision calling it illegal.
The apex court had issued an interim order and restored Sthapit as the commissioner in February.
Following the dismissal, Yogeshwor Krishna Parajuli, professor of engineering at the Tribhuvan University is set to succeed him for the next five years.
Earlier, Sthapit had claimed the government's reluctance to allocate budget and human resource adequately was the main reason behind the KDVA's sluggish performance.
The Baburam Bhattarai-led government set up the KVDA in April last year to undertake urban planning and development work and brought Sthapit at the helm. However, the then Prime Minister Bhattarai was not satisfied with Sthapit as he failed to deliver what he promised.
