EC concerned over ballot-box smashing
The Election Commission (EC) has taken a serious exception to the recent incident of CPN-Maoist smashing the ballot-boxes in public places.
In a statement issued on Sunday, EC spokesperson Bir Bahadur Rai said such activities were against the election code of conduct and warned of taking action against those found involved in such activities, saying that the poll code of conduct was already in place.
'Commission's attention has been drawn by the incident when CPN-Maoist General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa smashed ballot-boxes in the name of boycotting election,' read the statement.
'The Commission also wants to aware everybody that they should not obstruct the campaign aimed at securing the public right,' the statement further said.
The CPN-Maoist had on July 25 launched a nationwide campaign against the CA polls slated for November 19 by smashing dummy ballot boxes in a symbolic protest against the polls. General Secretary Thapa had on Thursday smashed dummy ballot boxes in a protest assembly held in Ratnapark in Kathmandu.
