Former Maoist combatants complete NA training

KATHMANDU, JUL 05 - The former Maoist combatants, who opted for integration, have completed their training provided by the Nepal Army ( NA ).

As many as 1,352 former Maoist combatants have completed their basic training , said the state army in a statement issued today.

A total of 71 former Maoist combatants are receiving officer-level training s at the Kharipati-based Nepali Army Academy. While the rest completed their training at eight different training centres of the NA .

21 former combatants gave up the training for some reasons, the NA 's Directorate of Public Relations said in the statement.

The officer-level training is yet to complete. According to NA , the training of officers will complete by mid-September.

Army integration is a crucial part of the peace process and the training has played important role in establishing former Maoist combatants, who had opted for integration, as capable, disciplined and professional army personnel, the NA said in the statement.

Some 479 former combatants underwent training at Trishuli-based Training Centre, 191 in Saljhandi, 80 in Itahari and 85 in Khairenitar.

Similarly, 86 received training at Nepalgunj-based centre, 173 in Hile, 87 in Surkhet and 171 at No. 5 Training Battalion, according to NA .
