90th birth anniversary of late Koirala observed
KATHMANDU, JUL 02 - The 90th birth anniversary of former Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala was celebrated here in Kathmandu on Tuesday by recalling his political contributions to the nation.
The NC has been observing the birth anniversary of late Koirala every year on today’s date by organising several programmes.
Also on the occasion, NC Kathmandu District Working Committee planted saplings at Sahid Park and Ratna Park.
At the function, NC General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula expressed his view that the country became a republic as a result of significant contributions from late Koirala.
Sitaula said that leader Koirala made a big sacrifice to establish Nepal as a republic, to hold the election of the Constituent Assembly (CA) and to bring the then CPN (Maoist) into peaceful politics.
NC Kathmandu District President Bhimsen Das Pradhan claimed that his party would win majority of the seats in Kathmandu at the upcoming CA elections.
Former PM Koirala had passed away in March 2010. He was 86 then.
