Kin of Rai demand custody death probe
KHOTANG, JUL 12 -
Relatives of Kiran Rai, who died on Wednesday in police custody , lodged a complaint at the National Human Rights Commission and the District Administration Office (DAO) on Thursday, saying that the victim had succumbed to the torture meted out to him by police.
They picketed the DAO on Thursday, demanding the formation of a probe committee, action against the guilty, compensation for the victim’s family, among others. They also said that they would not receive the body of Rai until their demands are met.
Permanent resident of Patheka VDC-2, Rai who was arrested on a murder charge on
June 11 died while undergoing treatment at a hospital. Dr Nawalkishor Jha, who was involved in Rai’s treatment, said that he had a respiratory problem.
Chief District Officer Dipakraj Nepal said that his office had informed the concerned ministry of their demands.
