'Ready to quit govt if parties forge consensus'
KATHMANDU, JUL 17 - Tourism Minister Ram Kumar Shrestha has said that the ministers of interim Cabinet are ready to either quit the government or postpone the Constituent Assembly (CA) polls date if the political parties forge consensus.
Speaking at a programme organised at the Reporter's Club in the Capital on Wednesday, Minister Shrestha said, "We [government ministers] won't stick to the ministerial chairs if the major four parties forge consensus. We won't be obstacle if our departure will ensure the end of political deadlock."
Minister Shrestha made it clear that it was possible to put off the election date if the parties agree on the same. He added that the parties should have a common agreement to conduct the elections.
He opined that the CA elections would not be disrupted just because some political parties disrupted it. He hoped that the CPN-Maoist, one of the key disgruntled parties, would join the elections as it has shown readiness to come for talks.
