Bhattarai appointed as Nepal's Permanent Representative to UN
KATHMANDU, JUL 16 - President Ram Baran Yadav on Tuesday appointed Foreign Secretary Durga Prasad Bhattarai as Nepal’s Permanent Representative and Ambassador to the United Nations in New York.
The appointment was made on the recommendation of the Cabinet. A press release issued by the President's Office today confirmed Bhattarai's appointment as Nepal's Permanent Representative to the UN.
The position was vacant since August 2012 after Gyan Chandra Acharya was appointed as Under-secretary General and High Representative for Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States.
After Bhattarai leaves for New York, senior Joint-secretary Arjun Bahadur Thapa will take up the post of Foreign Secretary.
