Tourism entrepreneurs upbeat about budget allocation

KATHMANDU, JUL 16 - Tourism entrepreneurs and the concerned stakeholders have welcomed the budget announced by the government for the fiscal year 2013/14, lauding budget allocation on the tourism sector and the positive affect it could have on the entire tourism industry.

At an interaction programme organised by the Media International in the Capital on Tuesday, the speakers said the budget allocated for the tourism sector has brought new hope among the tourism entrepreneurs.

Chairman of the National Tourism Entrepreneurs' Organisation, Chandra Rijal, said Rs 630 million allocated for eco-tourism and Rs 130 million allocated for the conservation of the archaeological and religious sites would have positive impact on tourism.

Former Chairman of Nepal Mountaineering Association, Ang Chhiring Sherpa, lauded the government scheme of giving a week -long holiday to the government staffers, saying that it would promote domestic tourism . It would obviously encourage tourism entrepreneurs, he added.

Similarly, Chairman of Thamel Tourism Development Council, Ram Sharan Thapaliya, said if the government had allocated some budget for improving Thamel area, the tourist hub in the Capital, it would have boosted tourism.

Media coordinator at Nepal Tourism Board, Sharad Pradhan, also expressed concerns as to why the government had failed to allocate budget for the publicity programmes related to tourism.

The government has allocated Rs 1.81 billion budget for the tourism sector for the fiscal year of 2013/14.
