Uttarakhand flashfloods :State to keep hunt for missing going
NEW DELHI , JUL 17 -
The Uttarakhand state government in India has decided to continue search operations for people missing in the June 16 flashfloods.
The government has rolled back its earlier decision to put the missing people under the ‘presumed dead’ category. The fresh decision follows objections raised by the families of the victims.
Around 5,000 people are said to be missing in the flashfloods and landslides that ravaged the northern Indian state. Scores of Nepali pilgrims and migrant workers are also missing in the incident. The New Delhi-based Nepali Embassy has gathered the names of 105 missing Nepalis.
Acting Ambassador to India, Khaganath Adhikari, said the embassy has provided the names of the missing Nepalis to the Uttarakhand authorities to facilitate their search.
Meanwhile, relatives of many missing Nepalis are still visiting Dehradun and Rishikesh in hopes of finding their lost relatives. Puspharaj Panday of Haridwar Nepali Society said the number of missing Nepalis is rising by the day.
