Elderly jailed after 32 years of verdict

UDAYAPUR, JUL 21 - An elderly man from Udayapur district was sent to jail earlier this week for a verdict that had been issued 32 years ago.

Janak Bahadur Khadka, 66, was sentenced for a year in prison on July 19, 1981 for his involvement in a case of abortion . According to Sub Inspector Roshan Thapa, Khadka has been jailed since last Tuesday.

"Abortion was illegal at the time, so he is serving his sentence. However, there is a provision that his sentence could be shortened by 25 pc as he is an elderly citizen," said advocate Bishnu Dev Chaudhary. However, the verdict does not state whose abortion it was.
