Army shooters dominant in 10m Air Rifle
KATHMANDU, JUL 17 -
Olympian Sneha Rajya Laxmi Rana from Rupandehi confirmed her place in the final of the National Open Shooting Championships on Tuesday.
Rana with a total of 389 points made her way into the final of the women’s 10 meter Air Rifle event along with Nepal Police Club’s (NPC) Phool Maya Kyapchaki (381) and Asmita Rai (369).
Rupandehi’s Kulin Rana (369), NPC’s Durga Sinjali (368) and Monica Rai (366), Nepal Army’s Anita Panta (360) and Meera Banjara (358) also secured their berth in the final of the event in the Championships organised by Nepal Shooting Association. Likewise, finalists of other 3 categories of the Championships were also confirmed. Eight finalists will compete in the Air
Rifle events whereas six shooters will vie in the pistol events.
Army ruled the roost in the men’s 10 meter Air Rifle event with four shooters making it to the final. Krishna Ghaurasaini (558), Shankar Dahal (557), Deepak Thapa (540) and Deepak Sanjel (536) all from Army will vie for the title with Saptari’s Ashim Yadav (562) and NPC’s Hari Bahadur Thapa (560), Ram Babu Dani (544), Bikas Kumar Rai (527).
In the men’s 10 meter Air Pistol, Army’s Kuber KC (557) and Sudan Khadka (523), Baanke’s Abdul Wahid Ansari (540) and Badruddin Ansari (535) and Dhanusa’s Bibek Raj Dhungel (525) and Jaggi Lal Mahato (513) all successfully overcame the qualifying stage to book places in the final.
In the women’s category, Baanke’s Krishna Thapa who attained top spot in the qualifying rounds with 361 points qualified for the final along with Army’s Sunita Maharjan (357) and Sunita Basnet (344), Bangalamukhi’s Shreya KC (349) and NPC’s Seema Tuladhar (351) and Saraswati Baniya (347).
Finalists of all categories will battle for a total of 200 points for the respective titles. The finals of 3 categories will be played on Wednesday while the final of women’s rifle will be played on Thursday.
