Annual sports award announced; Khadka Male PoY
Ganga Devi Adhikari from karate and Paras Khadka, skipper of Nepali cricket team, have been declared as the winners of this year's Pulsar Sports Player of the Year (PoY) award in female and male categories respectively.
The Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) announced the annual awards in various eight categories amid a special function organised in Kathmandu on Tuesday.
Wushu player Jharana Gurung won the ‘Popular Player of the Year’ title. She received the highest SMS votes among five nominees of the categories.
Wushu player Chahana Bomjan Lama was declared the ‘Youth Player of the Year’, while the coach of national cricket team Pubudu Dassanayake won the ‘Coach of the Year’ title.
Dassanayake, former Sri Lankan player, is currently in Cananda and thus could not take part in the function today.
Raman Siwakoti, technical analyst of the Nepali cricket team, received the award on behalf of Dassanayake.
Bikram Bahadur Rana of cricket was honoured with the ‘Para-athlete of the Year’ for Nepal's success in international blind cricket tournaments.
Likewise, Cricket Association of Blind Nepal grabbed the Special Award for its contribution in development of cricket for blind players in Nepal. Pawan Ghimire, chairman of the association, received the award.
Former coach of the Nepali football team Bhim Thapa was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award this year.
The Male, Female and Popular Players of the Year award winners received Pulsar motorcycles, while Youth PoY, Coach of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, Special and Para-athlete of the Year bagged a purse of Rs 50,000 each along with gift hampers.
