KATHMANDU, JUL 18 -
Indian Ambassador to Nepal Jayanta Prasad will leave Kathmandu on August 25 after completing two years in office.  His successor, Ranjit Rae , will arrive in Kathmandu in mid-September, though there has been no official announcement yet.

Prasad, who came to Kathmandu on August 24, 2011, retires from the Indian Foreign Service. His scheduled departure  effectively quashes speculations that he would be asked to stay on until the November elections.

Rae’s latest diplomatic assignment was in Vietnam, where he was the Indian ambassador until July 2013. Rae, 56, has served as Joint Secretary at the Nepal-Bhutan Desk in India’s Ministry of External Affairs (2002 to 2006).

He is a post-graduate from the Delhi School of Economics. His other diplomatic assignments include acting commissioner at the High Commission of India

in Kampala, and under-secretary/deputy-secretary at the United Nations Division at the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. He has also served in the Permanent Mission of India to New York, the UN Mission in Kosovo and the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations in New York.
