Do not implement agreement on TIA, SC tells govt

Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court ( SC ) on Monday ordered the government to not implement the recent agreement signed between Nepali and Indian authorities regarding the upgradation of the Tribhuvan International Airport ( TIA ) and setting up Indian immigration check-posts at Pashupatinagar.

A Home Secretary-level meeting between the two countries last month had reached signed the agreement regarding upgradation of the immigration system at the country's only international airport in the Capital and set up Indian immigration offices at the two bordering cities.

A single bench of Justice Tarka Raj Bhatta issued the order following the hearing today.

The bench justified the stay order saying there was a need for the apex court intervention as per Section 41(1) of the Supreme Court Rules, 1992.
