Ranger arrested for timber smuggling
MORANG., JUL 05 - Two persons including a Ranger have been arrested on charge of smuggling timber from Morang district.
Ranger Mohammad Sallaudin Ansari of District Forest Office, Morang and Hari Niroula of Letang were arrested for their alleged involvement in smuggling timber from the Jana Sewa Community Forest in Letang of the district. They are currently under police custody at the Area Forest Office, Belbari.
The accused were arrested by the Area Police Office, Letang along with 54 cubic feet of timber, the police said.
Niroula, however, told Ashok Jha, Chief of the Area Forest Office, Belbari that he was transporting the timber following verbal approval from the Ranger.
“We have lately increased our patrolling following reports of widespread smuggling of timber from various community forests in Morang district,” said Police Inspector Bhupendra Karki at the Area Police Office, Belbari.
The Area Forest Office Chief Jha said that action will be taken as per the law against the timber smugglers and the official patronising the timber smugglers. RSS
