Sitaula comes to Regmi govt’s rescue
KATHMANDU, JUL 08 -
Nepali Congress General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula has warned that the Khil Raj Regmi-led government could stay in power for the next four years if its alternative is sought.
Speaking at an interaction at Reporters Club in Kathmandu on Sunday, he said an alternative to this government could not be sought as Regmi was brought at the helm to hold the Constituent Assembly elections.
“A new government will not be formed before the CA elections,” he said. “This government has been formed to conduct the elections. So there is no alternative to it. If we try to change the government, it would remain in power for four more years.” He claimed that a new government from now onwards would be an elected one.
In another context, Sitaula said the NC is ready for the round table meeting as proposed by the CPN-Maoist. He maintained that the NC is also open to rejig the High Level Political Committee, expand the Cabinet.
He said that he does not believe that the CPN-Maoist would thwart the elections. The four parties are ready to accept all conditions put forth by the Mohan Baidya-led party except the mixed electoral system and the change of the present government, he added.
