50 dead in landslips, floods so far: Govt Emergency centre says 19 missing across country


KATHMANDU, JUL 04 -
At least 50 people were killed and 19 others went missing in recent floods and landslides across the country, according to the National Emergency Operation Centre under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA).

The centre said 15 were injured and 871 houses were completely destroyed by floods. A total of 1,496 houses were partially damaged, 962 cattle died and 1,164 families were completely displaced in various parts of the country, according to the government data released on Tuesday.

According to the centre, 6,861 people were displaced after landslides and floods swept away their houses. “The displaced have been relocated in schools, their relatives’ houses, temples, civil servants’ residential areas,  tents and public buildings.

In Humla district, 44 people were displaced, while the exact extent of damage is yet to be ascertained, it said. The floods and landslips partially affected 1,908 families and directly hit around 11,393 people. As announced, the government has provided Rs 7.5 million in cash to the victims, the centre said.

Besides cash, the government has distributed hundreds of quintals of food, sugar, edible oil, lentils, noodles, salt, beaten rice, tents, blankets and utensils, among other things, while also organising various mobile health camps.
