NC urged to bring package agreement

KATHMANDU, JAN 10 - Senior leader of CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal has urged the Nepali Congress (NC) to come up with a package agreement in its capacity as the largest party. He said the people have mandated the political parties through the November 19 Constituent Assembly (CA) poll to move ahead in unity.

"I would like to urge the Nepali Congress, which is the largest party in the CA, to bring a package agreement," said leader Nepal. "We will hold discussions on the agreement package brought by the NC." He claimed the UCPN (Maoist) will automatically come to the right path if the NC and UML come to agreement. He ruled out the possibility of drafting the new constitution without the agreement between NC and UML.

Speaking at the second general assembly of the party palace on Friday, leader Nepal said writing the new constitution is the solution to end the transitional phase.

At the programme, NC General Secretary Prakash Man Singh said his party will table the proposal of agreement before the other political parties when time comes. He said the NC will move forward with the spirit of unity as per the people's mandate.

Leader Singh remarked that it was uncanny that the issue to be settled through discussions among the political parties was taken to court. "It was unusual that the political issue was taken to court. Political issues should be settled by the parties," said leader Nepal.

He opined that party president Sushil Koirala is the prime ministerial candidate of his party since the party became the largest party under the leadership of Koirala. He claimed that there was no dispute within the party. He said the prime minister will be chosen through voting in parliament if the parties failed to pick a consensus candidate
