ISTU calls indefinite closure of academic institutions
CHITWAN, JAN 03 -
Nepal Institutional School Teachers Union ( ISTU ), Chitwan has called for an indefinite closure of the institutional schools in Chitwan district beginning from Friday, demanding salary and allowances at a par with the community school teachers.
The union is compelled to call for the closure of institutional schools after an agreement reached between the teachers and PABSON was not implemented, said union sources. Some 159 institutional schools in the district will remain closed affecting the studies of 7,000 students with this call for closure coming into effect, it is learnt.
"We are compelled to enforce the unpleasant decision of calling for a closure of schools due to the sheer negligence in addressing our already agreed upon agendas," said Bishnu Bahadur Bhujel, chairman of ISTU Chitwan.
The ISTU has demanded an increase in the teachers´ salary by 18 per cent and an allowance of Rs. 1,000. However, parents and authority concerned have urged the ISTU to immediately withdraw the decision. RSS
