Snow, rains hit life across country

Drop in mercury with a sudden change in local weather resulting from rains and snowfall s since Monday evening affected the normal life in various districts in the Western part of the country.
Some of the mountainous districts in Mid-Western and Far-Western regions witnessed snowfall , while rainfall occurred in some of the Hill and the Tarai districts.
Our correspondent in Humla reported that normal life in the district was greatly affected because of the snowfall in several villages, including Simikot, the district headquarters.
The snow blanketed the villages, affecting the public mobility in some parts.
Air service to and from the district was also disrupted. Scores of passengers were stranded due to flight cancellation.
In Jumla, the district headquarters Khalanga wore a deserted look as shops remained closed and people remained indoors to avoid the freezing cold. The farmers are happy that the rain and snowfall would help their winter crops and improve their harvest.
The Norther region of Kalikot district has been thrown out of gear because of snowfall and cold weather.
Transport service and schools in the district have been closed.
Our correspondent in Mugu reported of snowfall in villages like Rara, Sowa, Bam, Talcha, Mugu, Dolphu, Chimath and other high altitude areas. The local people have been facing difficulties collecting fodder for their cattle.
According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD), districts in the Tarai belt along with the high altitude districts in the Far-Western Region of the country are likely to experience drop in temperatures with the chances of brief thundershower and snowfall until Wednesday evening.
Dadeldhura, Dipayal, Dhangadhi, Birendranagar, Nepalgunj, Jumla, Dang and Bhairahawa in the Western Nepal recorded rainfall on Monday. “There are chances of rainfall along the Terai belt with snowfall in the high mountainous districts in the Western Nepal until Wednesday night,” said Shanti Kandel, a meteorologist at the MFD on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Eastern districts are likely to experience partly cloudy weather without rain for the next couple of days.
On Tuesday, Jumla in the Mid-West Region received highest rainfall measuring 9.4 millimetres while Dhangadhi in the Far-West region received lowest rainfall measuring 1 millimetre.
Similarly, Kathmandu on Monday recorded the lowest temperature for this season at 0.5 degree Celsius.
Normally, the chilly days with significant drop in temperature is recorded from the third week of December to first week of January in the country.
